Colour Inquiry

While painting, Kaylee said to Mrs. Forsyth, "I want pink paint." Mrs. Forsyth replied, "Well, we have red paint here. What do you think I could add to the red paint to make it pink?" Kaylee excitedly replied, "Blue". As Mrs. Forsyth began to mix the colours together, Kaylee was very excited to see the paint turn to purple. At circle, we decided to ask the class if they could help us figure out how to make pink paint. The students were excited as they made suggestions of colours we could mix with the red. We tried green, yellow, orange and then finally white. The students were really excited, so we decided to put out paint for them to mix and create new colours.

After the paint mixing, the students enjoyed reading and discussing the book "Mouse Paint" by Ellen Walsh.

We have more exciting colour mixing planned for this week.

Fostering Writing Development in a Play-Based Program

Students were invited to write down their suggestions for a name for our grasshopper.

Students sign up when they want to share something with the class.

There is a mystery item in the box.  Students enjoy writing their guesses on the box.
Writing a letter to mom.
Writing a card.
Making a sign to protect a structure he had built.  The sign reads, "Do not touch, please".
Copying word cards onto the white board.

There were many bees outside during our first week of school.  This became a popular topic to write about.

Look at what we learned...

Math

Learning about shapes with pattern blocks

Language Arts

 Reading a familiar poem

After signing up at the sharing board, this student enjoyed talking to the class about a family portrait.
Look at my writing.

Science

Students enjoyed studying the strange tiny black objects at our science centre today.  Students were invited to write down what they thought these were.  Some guesses included worms, butterflies, bugs and chrysalises.  This student noticed that they are black and that they occasionally move.  Stay tuned to find out what they really are.

Art

When students are allowed to explore art materials freely, the creativity that they demonstrate is amazing!!
I traced my hands and feet to make my person.
I coloured a cotton ball to make a flower.
Look at my crown.
